CAx-IF Implementor Group

The CAx-IF Implementor Group is a group of software vendors, 3rd party integrators, and independent implementors of CAx interfaces for STEP AP242, that define common approaches, validate them in test rounds and document them in Recommended Practices. These documents:

  • are publicly available on the MBx-IF homepage after successful testing and release.
  • define harmonized approaches for realizing specific capabilities in STEP, based on users’ requirements
  • are the foundation for the consistency and interoperability of STEP interfaces
  • provide comprehensive implementation guidelines with examples
  • get validated in Implementor Group test rounds

These Recommended Practices are validated in CAx test rounds. Test Rounds give the vendors the chance to try out new approaches and improve their implementations so that newly introduced capabilities will be robust and stable. The detailed scope and schedule for each test round will be defined by the CAx-IF Implementor Group based on the requirements as defined by the User Group. During each round:

  • participants provide STEP files based on current STEP schemas, Recommended Practices and test case definitions
  • files are tested for syntax and structure, including conformance to the Recommended Practices
  • statistics are gathered and evaluated to determine the success rate for each test
  • technical issues are openly discussed in an atmosphere of trust to derive recommendations for improvement of
    • The STEP interfaces
    • The Recommended Practices
    • The STEP standard itself
